Computers - Increased Web Site Traffic - The First Step
| Title : "Increased Web Site Traffic - The First Step ".Computers,Internet Marketing,Web Traffic Keyword research is like a catalyst for web site traffic generation. A catalyst is something that helps a process to go much faster without being consumed. Having the right keywords for your content will simply get you more visitors regardless of what type of web traffic tactics you are using. By spending a little time researching the words people use for searching you will know where it is most effective to spend your time creating your content. For example a very small change in the title, to have it contain the right keyword, can have a huge effect in the number of people that will ever read or even find you article. By spending a little time with research you will know if there is so much competition for a search term that it will simply kill you. So how do you go about doing keyword research? First of all I am going to assume you have a site and a subject you are focusing on. Think a few seconds about what people would use in search engine to find your content. Create a spreadsheet and write each phrase you find on one line. Focus on phrases three words or longer, at the very least two word phrases. Point your browser to WordTracker. The free version of WordTracker limits the number of results but it will be enough when you are just starting out. When you are making your living from your internet income you can consider a subscription. For each keyword you try in WordTracker write down the number of results in the column next to the keyword in the spread sheet. The results from Wordtracker typically show lower results than the actual searches in Google but the relation between the numbers of results are still correct. Also remember that the results from WordTracker is taken from the past so if you use highly seasonal terms, like Christmas, the results will be way off. As you enter your words into the service you will get suggestions for related keywords. Add the interesting keywords with enough searches to your spreadsheet and repeat the process. When you think you are done with searching for new keywords open Google in your browser and enter your search terms. Write down the number of results from Google in the next column in the spreadsheet after the number of searches. Also write down your top competitors. Now you have done all the heavy work. In the next cell calculate the number of searches / results. For example a keyword with 100 searches and 1 000 000 results will get a ratio of 100/1000000 = 0.0001. The higher this ratio the more result you will get per effort. I would not focus on keywords with less than 50 searches a day regardless of the ratio. You have to find a good breaking point for your niche. If the number of research is more than 10 million you need to add more words in your phrase and you will have less competition. Keyword research is just the first step in getting increased web site traffic. The next step to get web traffic to your web site is to setup different types of web traffic generation tactics.
