A friend called me today and wanted to know how to write an eBook. We went over several easy ways to do this, and she finally settled on the “Tell It To A Friend” over the phone method, which I think is one of the easiest ways to do it.
You can use these same basic steps to record into a digital recorder on a one-on-one basis.
Following are six easy steps to create your eBook over the phone while talking to a friend.
1. Determine when you are going to get together. Call your friend at that pre-arranged time.
You will need a way to record your conversation. A popular way to do this is to use a service such as www.greataudioacrobat.com where you call your friend, then patch both of you in.
Alternatively, you can set it up on www.freeconferencecall.com where you both call into a prearranged number at the same time.
For either of these methods, the recording can be downloaded or streamed for future listening.
There are individual recording devices that can be used, but I don't recommend them. Above all, do not try to record with a hand-held recording sitting next to the phone. That will not work for a variety of reasons.
2. Using notes or an outline, start explaining your idea to your friend. The more enthusiasm you use in your voice, the better, since this recording can also become a product.
Encourage your friend to ask questions or for clarification of anything that is unclear. That’s another benefit of creating your eBook using this method.
3. Continue telling your idea to your friend until it is finished, but for no more than an hour. You can schedule another session if you need it.
4. Send the link to your favorite transcription service and in less than a week, you will have your spoken word converted into the written word. You might need to do some editing and you may want to flesh out the information and add more.
You will have created about 20-30 pages which will be a chapter for your eBook, a special report, material for several articles, the beginning of an eCourse, the complete product, or a myriad of other information products.
5. Make it look good. Add a cover, a table of contents, borders, some graphics, perhaps some call-out boxes, graphs, whatever you need to make it look good.
6. While your eBook is at your transcription service, you can prepare the web site and start marketing it.
Then go back to #1 and do it again.
That is the “Tell It To A Friend” over the phone method of creating an eBook. It’s easy and fast. It gets your eBook on the market with lightning speed. You could also get a professional interviewer to interview you. |
